In this article I am going to give you my honest opinion of the Lean Belly Breakthrough system and whether I think it is effective at stripping fat from your midsection. This popular programme designed by Dr Heinrich is specifically designed to reduce belly fat in a fast and effective way. But does it?

So when you land on the sales page you get to hear the story of Dan and Sylvie and how a chance meeting with a Doctor from Germany led them to a health programme that claimed to lessen the chances of heart disease, diabetes and hypertension while at the same time reducing stubborn body fat.

The story continues with Dan’s son-in-law, personal trainer Bruce Krahn, taking up the protocol and using it successfully with a number of his clients, many of which are featured as testimonials during the presentation. But what exactly are the secrets that are claimed to be so precious and how effective (marketing aside) are they? Most importantly people want to know –  does the Lean Belly Breakthrough work?

Well from what I can see of the programme it relies on tried and tested strategies to lose weight and get your blood sugar under control (nothing earth shattering here) but in a new and unique way. Without giving the whole protocol away it uses foods to control the hormone insulin (fat storage hormone) and fight inflammation – or the fire within as Krahn refers to it. Both of these are scientifically proven ways to improve health and lose weight (as belly fat).

The Lean Belly Breakthrough diet consists of a list of foods, herbs and spices that are commonly known to control blood sugar, boost metabolism and improve health and include examples that everybody has heard of. There is also common sense advice on what foods to avoid which is useful. There are no questionable dietary requirements on this programme.

There are workouts involved as with any other programme. The promotional claims of 2 minutes per day are a bit misleading as there are a series of 5 exercises to do each of which takes 2 minutes so you are in fact working out for over 10 minutes. However, you don’t need to worry about 60 minute workouts to follow this protocol.

Who is the Lean Belly Breakthrough for?

The programme is marketed at men and women over 40 years of age (the time when you tend to accumulate more fat around your mid section) although Dan was in his 60’s when he was first given the protocol by Dr Heinrich. Obviously if you currently have diabetes or have suffered with heart disease then this programme is designed specifically for you, but once again this tends to be people in the 40+ age group.

Should this programme really be called the Lean Body Breakthrough?

This programme does attack belly fat but it is a general health programme that will improve all parts of your body – both inside and out. So even if you’re main aim isn’t to drop body fat, but heart disease and diabetes are a concern for you, then the changes recommended will certainly help you improve your overall health.

The pro’s of the programme are that is relatively simple and inexpensive and can be done anywhere. It comes in the form of a pdf guide and is only around 30 pages long. There are no strict dieting rules or intense exrcise sessions involved like some programmes. There are videos to accompany the pdf which show in detail all the exrcises recommended by Krahn, which is useful if you’re new to exercise and haven’t seen these movements before. The movements are simple and the risk of injury is low so it can be done pretty much by anyone.

The cons are that it comes across as very hypey and a little hard to believe. Also most if not all of the information is available elsewhere. However, what you are paying for is an assimilation (for your convenience) of lots of proven techniques that reduce belly fat.

It may be hard to stick to the 1 pound a day of weight loss which is indicated in the promo material. For many people this may be unrealistic and this may serve to demotivate you if you don’t keep pace with it. I would suggest aimimg for 2-3 pounds per week and losing the weight over a longer period (but I guess that doesn’t sell quite so well!).

The course comes with some handy bonuses – tracking sheets which are useful. There is also a heart attack guide which details the symptoms to look out for when a heart attack is imminent which some people may find useful.

If you set your weight loss expectations a little lower (below the hype) then I’m confident this programme will work for everyone who needs it.
