If you’re looking to buy Pilates equipment online then in this article I will show you the best accessories in the Pilates industry at the moment. While much traditional Pilates is based on a reformer there are also lots of accessories that are used as equipment for floor routines that can be done at home or in a studio. Here I will discuss my own personal recommendations of specigfic Pilates products that I use with my own clients.
Best Pilates Mat
The HomCom folding Pilates mat is my favourite selection when it comes to lying down for a Pilates workout. This thick, comfy mat is not a cheap option but is well worth the extra spend if you’re a serious practitioner. It folds into 4 segments (it’s too thick to be rolled) but is still easy to carry or store at home. It has a leather veneer which is great to exercise on – similar to other exercise machines you’ll find in the gym. The thickness of this mat is great for certain positions and exercises needed in a Pilates workout and it is very comfortable to lie on.
Best Pilates DVD
The best Pilates DVD is by far the Stott Pilates DVD. If you only watch one Pilates workout video this year then this is the one. The Core Challenege DVD is probably the best of the extensive Stott range of workout videos on the market. The workout is geared towards the beginner or intermediate end of the spectrum so may not be applicable if you’re and advanced Pilates enthusiast but the workout is still reasonably challenging. The commentary is clear and well laid thought out and it moves at a good pace which may be too fast for complete newbies, but overall this is a great way to get a home Pilates workout in without hiring a personal instructor.
Best Pilates Ball
I really like the PhysioWorld Pilates Ball 8 as it is a high quality ball that is very easy to grip. It comes deflated but is very easy to blow up and it maintains air very well.
Best Pilates Ring
Otherwise known as the Pilates Magic Circle, the Cooleed Tech Double Handle Circle is the product I recommend for Pilates enthusiasts. This compact and lightweight piece of kit is is easy to carry and store. It comes in a selection of colours and is foam padded on both sides. This piece of kit is great for toning the inner thighs and also the arms when performing traditional Pilates exercises.
Best Pilates Roller
The Foam Roller by Body Focus Fitness is my go to roller both both Pilates exercises and self myofscial release. It is very sturdy and durable, but it is also hollow which makes it super lightweight to carry around. It can be used for pretty much any type of Pilates regardless of your size and is also great for rolling out those stiff muscles after a workout.
Best Pilates Chair
The Merrithew Split Pedal Pilates Chair is my favourite seated apparatus for Pilates. While not cheap this beautifuuly designed chair is perfect for anyone who has to sit for long periods of time. It is compact and easy to store so is perfect for the home or office. The tension in the springs is very good and the movement is smooth and silent. It comes with an exercise DVD which shows you innovative ways to use the chair. I really like this high quality peice of kit.
