Where to find Boot Camp Wandsworth Park?
The workout sessions on Wandsworth Common are an hour long and are attended by men and women in search of fitness from all over the borough of Wandsworth. The intense sessions are split into four sections each focusing on different aspects of fitness. The first section of the Boot Camp Wandsworth Park workout is the often overlooked dynamic flexibility warm up.
It is often incorrectly thought that slow static stretching is good at the start of the workout but nothing could be further from the truth. Research has consistently showed that static stretching pre workout decreases muscle power – meaning you will not be able to run as fast or lift as heavy as normal and can actually lead to muscle and tendon injury. It is much more sensible to begin the workout with a structured progressive dynamic warm up where the movements expected in the workouts are replicated at ever increasing intensity. This not only decreases the likelihood of injury amongst participants but also prepares the muscles, joints and nervous system for the rigours of the session ahead.
The next part of the workouts in Wandsworth Park workout is the circuit training portion. The fitness coaches at Peak XV Fitness use a variety of exercise equipment such as kettle bells, medicine balls, resistance bands and body weight exercises to help strengthen the muscles and tone the unwanted flabby bits such as the inner thighs and back of the arms. Building muscle is extremely important for both men and women as muscle burns fat – not only when you are exercising but also when you are at rest after exercise. It is also important to use functional whole body exercises such as squats, push ups, lunges and rows rather than focusing on abs and triceps kick backs. The more muscles you are using in an exercise – the more fat you burn.
Next in the session we make participants do High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) running drills. These types of drills have been scientifically proven to maximally burn fat and improve cardiovascular fitness. Popular drills include repeated 40 metre sprints with short rest periods and Tabata drills.
The last part of the session is a controlled cool down and static stretch. This is the time to do the static stretches, according to the team of coaches, where Wandsworth Park boot campworkout participants are encouraged to hold the stretches for up to 30 seconds in order to restore muscle length and alleviate some of the next day’s muscle soreness.
All members of Boot Camp Wandsworth Park workout also get full nutritional support in the form of a monthly meal plan and shopping list, courtesy of in house Nutritional Therapist Steve Hines. Steve encourages that everyone eats regularly to keep their energy up and to base their main meals around healthy protein sources such as meat and fish and supplement this with plenty of fruit and vegetables. He encourages them not to be fat phobic and to get healthy fats in the form of Omega 3 oils which are great for weight loss.
